In ancient times, the city used to be called Zamá, which means dawn in Mayan and lately Tulum, which is wall in the same language and started to be used to refer to this city after it became ruins. In accordance to the writings on murals and in other ancient works found in other buildings, it was considered that Tulum was an important center for cult to call upon the ¨Decending God¨.

UNESCO has declared Tulum a World Heritage Center. One of the most outstanding places is its Mayan ruins, located over a cliff in front of the Caribbean sea; with warm nights mostly full of stars and clear turquoise waters, its the only archeological site in the world located on a tropical beach.
Just under the cliff is Playa Paraiso, considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the Mayan Riviera. At the same time, it is located right next to the biosphere reserve of Sian Kaán, which measures half a million hectares of beaches, coral reefs, dunes, jungle and cenotes.
